Soil Scientist at AGFE Dept. IIT Kharagpur, India

Ph.D from IIT, Kharagpur, India

M. Sc.(Ag) R. B. S. College, Bichpuri, U. P. Agra

Developed soil map for Boron and Zinc for the Bankura, Purulia and Midnapur Districts of West Bengal . A project on “Preparation of Soil Fertility Map in HFC, KVK Villages” was also submitted to KVK head office of ICAR.

Developed practical technology for the reclamation of acid soil of West Bengal

Developed fertilizer recommendation for rice based cropping system based on soil testing in acid soils of West Bengal

Evaluated iron deficiency in costal saline soils and manganese toxicity in laterite soils of Midnapur district, West Bengal

Ph.D research on “Studies on Micronutrient and Sulfur Availability in Acid Soils in Relation to Liming, Soil Moisture Regime and Yield Response of Rice” led to the following findings:

  • Deficiency of sulfur, boron, copper and zinc is likely to occur in submerged acid alluvial and laterite soils of West Bengal.
  • Response of rice to sulfur is better in unlimed than limed acid alluvial and laterite soils.
  • Response of rice to boron is better in limed than unlimed alluvial and laterite soils.
  • Response of rice to copper is higher in alluvial than laterite soils.
  • Response of rice to boron is higher in laterite than alluvial soils
  • Alternate flooding and drying is superior to flooding for bororice, but the reveres are true for aman rice, with respect to availability and uptake of micronutrients.
  • Combined application of sulfur, boron, copper and zinc produce maximum rice yield in submerged acid alluvial and laterite soils
